CELEBRATING THE 50TH GREAT KNARESBOROUGH BED RACE

"DA-DA DA-DA DA-DA DA-DA BATMAN!"

Once again Geoff from our Leeds office finds himself immersed in preparation for the Great Knaresborough Bed Race, run on 13th June, building for the local Scout Group for the third year running. The theme for the year was Popular Culture and the Scouts chose Batman and the Batmobile representing 50 years since the TV series first aired in 1966.

Geoff had the pleasure of building the decoration while the Troop did their costumes.  He was after a Best Dressed Bed three in a row, but got a second place this year.  The Batmobile is an amalgamation of various historical versions designed to fit around the racing bed frame.  Made of plywood, Celotex insulation board and papier mâché with various recycled bits of plastic, the Batmobile took around two months of weekends and evenings to build.  It’s now sat in Geoff’s back garden!

Bed Race day was Geoff’s birthday and he got 'Happy Birthday' sung to him by a bunch of bats and batty villains. Great fun!

See highlights of the day and the Batmobile’s journey on YouTube.
